Hi,

I would like to request the creation of the newsgroup uw.cs.cs137. I
would like the students to be able to read via Google Groups too. Its
contents should be erased between terms.

Thanks,

I've sent out a "newgroup" message for uw.cs.cs137.

Don't get your hopes up about Google Groups. Past experience
is that our newsgroups sometimes get created at Google Groups
and sometimes don't, and there's no way to find out why.

For a period of around 4 months starting in November 2006, Google
Groups sent articles into USENET with headers non-compliant to
standards, causing some news software to break in irritating ways.

For well over half of last year Google Groups was the chronic
home of one spectacularly abusive spammer. In each newsgroup
he spammed, he would post 2 or 3 dozen ads for the same web site
within a few minutes, and he repeated this every day for months.

I've never found a way to get a complaint or question seen by
any warm body at Google Groups.

When Google Groups causes problems on USENET, they tend to be
BIG problems, they don't get fixed for months, and there is no
way to get a complaint through to Google Groups.

Google Groups is an affliction on USENET.

Thanks for the information about Google Groups. As CS241 and CS246's
newsgroups can be accessed from Google Groups, I thought it might be
easier for the first year students (CS137) to check via them. It is good
to know the cons of using Google Groups.

uw.cs.cs137 is now available from Google Groups.

When it works I have no idea why it works. When it doesn't
work, I have no idea why it doesn't work.
